Travelling hell

Disclaimer: just wanna share my experience, some whining and lots of complaining will be included. Not gonna say it’s the worst experience in the world, but it’s my worst experience so far.

Dec 15,
1:00 am : my alarm just went off, I don’t really want to wake up so I give myself 30 extra minutes. I still have food to eat, final stuff to pack, a shower to take and other knick knacks.
2:30 am : I just finished checking out, tears are threatening to fall. To think I won’t be back in nine months or more. I called a Lyft and I’m surprised to find it’s 2 min away. I bring down my bags painstakingly, all three of them. The lady driver is very nice.

3:30 am : We’ve beeen going in circles, the gps was trash so we relied on just the signs. Luckily we just pulled over, I’m a little bit panicked. I get a cart, one I have to pay for. It was an amazing investment but one that left me at the blink of tears.

3:40 am : I’m confused. I’m at terminal E where Qatar Airways operates but it’s close to empty. On the ticket it says I have to be at terminal C, and I don’t know how to get there. I’m almost not connected to the internet and the Logan Wifi has refused to work.

3:45 am : I decide to brace the cold, cars and roads I shouldn’t be using to get to terminal C. I almost get run over by cars and walk where pedestrians are not allowed to. It is super busy at terminal C, but there is no Qatar Airways. I decide to go back to terminal E, but at least I used the right passage.

6:45 am : My anxiety is at maximum. I decide to check again my booking. Turns out it was not operated by Qatar Airways, hence the inactivity. I literally run back to terminal C. However check in is over because I arrived at less than 20 min before the flight.

5:20 am : I am at the help desk of Jet Blue airways when my flight leaves the airport. They can’t reschedule for me, so the whole itinerary is missed/ messed up/ unsalvageable.

5:40 am : I try calling Qatar Airways but they don’t open until 9:00 am. I call student universe, I used it to book my flight, and it goes through. There’s a new itenerary, but I’ll be charged lots of fees. However it’s my best bet. I agree to pay knowing full well I don’t have the money in my account. I was hoping to get a negative balance and deal with it later. The card was denied.

6:15 am : I start a marathon of calling all my friends, knowing full well most of them may be sleeping. Of the three I counted on most, two were asleep one was paying something important at that instant.
After almost giving up, I called someone expecting them to be asleep or not have the money but it both worked out. She
was awake and helped me pay for the fees, I’ll forever be grateful- everyday she redefined what friendship really means.

7:30 am: The stress of rebooking was now over, I had to face another demon waiting for 12 hours to check in for my flight.

8:00 am - 7:30 pm : I rediscovered what enterprising really means. Every move was calculated to maximize comfort, time spent at a certain place and minimize boredom. I moved between seats close to the restroom and the restaurants. Bought food twice, spent a total of four hours eating it- it was spiced with a few naps here and there. I called people and they kept me company. I read a book. I listened to a book. I dozed off now and then

Blake 11: a psychiatric hospital review

This one is from a while ago, so some details will be a bit here and there. The first time I was hospitalized for my mental illness, which is also the time I was diagnosed, I was at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The story of how I got there is in another blogpost. It was the 28th February 2018. I was sent to MGH for a wellness check. I rode with the MIT EMT. They did my labs and all my minerals and fluids were wack. I had spent almost two months without eating and drinking little water. Even though I got there around 10pm I wasn’t seen by a doctor until 2am.  That was because they were trying to give me fluids so that my levels would get close to normal. They also gave me food. A fruit bar and tuna sandwich.  When I met with the doctor, I broke into tears as one does. I told him the analogy of the tree falling in the forest but life/ death edition. We talked about lots of stuff. At the end of our discussion he told me I have bipolar disorder. I didn’t kn...

AdMITted

It has been three weeks since I received the admission decision. It was on the fifteenth of December at 6:28 pm Eastern time. For those fond of Math you might have noticed that it was at two pi (3.14*2). Due to the time zones, I received the decision at 1:28 a.m. the next day. A month and a half ago, I finalised my application to Massachusetts Institute of Technology- the world leading university in STEM. After multiple essay edits, portfolio creation and video taking I was ready. I can call my application a leap of faith. The acceptance rate was less than eight per cent, and all the people who had applied from my school had not been admitted. I believed in myself though, and the non-restrictive early action application system inspired me. I avoided binding myself too much to the institution, for I did not want a heartache the moment the decision came. On multiple occasions, I build many backup plans and created schools of my dreams despite the fact that my dream school was MIT. I al...

A letter to ggast class of 2017

Dear Gashora Girls Academy class of 2017, As I write this, I am in the MIT orientation. Last year at this exact time I was at home, sick. Less than a week earlier, I had a mental breakdown. The next day I was given permission to go home, and this marked the first of many trips I took home that term. I might have had a slightly different experience in the last term, but I believe I can give you some words of wisdom. Senior six (grade 12) was a frightening year for me. I was not a proactive person, and I liked to keep things to myself. Selling myself to a college seemed so hard for me. I had to talk to Mr John, our University counselor, do research, standardized tests, and all those things. I didn't know where to start. I was simply confused, so I stopped everything. I started the year with a 31 score in ACT practice, however, it went downhill from there. When I'm overwhelmed with multiple thing to do, I tend to freeze and not do anything at all. So I stopped ACT pract...
